Quick updates.

Ello folks, I've been slacking again and not posting to the blog. There isn't really much to post about, I've had to rip out the scarf I was knitting as the pockets for it are much smaller than I thought. I had been planing on giving this scarf to my sister as a late Christmas present but feel the pockets are too small for an adult so will give it to my niece next Christmas. Which means theres no real rush for me to finish it.

I wove a phone pouch on the inkle loom for my mom, Mothering Sunday today, but its turned into a bit of a disaster. Well its not that bad really, I did buy her a candle as well. I wove a band at 3" but when folded and sewn over inside isn't 3 inches so that's not going to work, I also folded it all wrong so the nicest part of the flap wasn't showing and I also forgot to sew the velcro tab on before I had sewn it all together. I really need to work on my hemming and sewing as well.

Lessons learnt from trying to make the phone pouch on the inkle loom, I should of made two bands and sewn those together and I need to learn how to weave tubes and attach those instead of hemming. I was a bit rushed for time as usual, this project would of been a good one to try back strap weaving, even without doing fancy pick ups and what nots. Its her birthday in a couple of months, maybe I can get around to it before then.

Hope you all had a good weekend, take care folks and have a great day.

Two down.

Caught another mouse yesterday and now know there is at least one more, probably more than one. I figure a mother came into the house to give birth so maybe 6 to 8 in total?? I don't think the male sticks around after mating so probably just this family unit, if I can get them all quick there shouldn't be any long term problems, just hope I already have the mature female or that she hasn't already mated again. Not sure when the young are ready for mating, I could look the information up but I'd sooner spend my time killing the buggers.

Ordered some split rings to make keyrings with so this weekend I might warp the inkle loom and start making some keyring lengths. My sister really liked the keyring I wove for her, she put it on her keys straight away. I didn't take any pictures but i still have some of the inkle band left over, I'll take pictures and post them to the blog. Its been a long time since I last did a picture post

Hope you all have a great weekend, take care folks.

Inkle bookmarks

  Inkle band woven bookmarks.

Here are a couple of the bookmarks I wove on the inkle loom.  I think my camera is on the way out, the first couple of picture I took were are messed up, odd colours all merged together.

Inkle bookmark

I wove these bookmarks as one band with breaks in between each one. I think I got 6 bookmarks from a 5 foot band. These 3 have been through the washing machine to see how the end of the weaving holds up.

I gave the best looking bookmark to my mom for Mother's day, I still need to work on making my edges consistent.

Hope you all have a great weekend, take care folks and have a happy Easter.

Inkle loom pictures.

My inkle loom.
As promised here are some pictures of some of my first inkle weaving bands.

Blue inkle bands

You can see I need to work more on neatening up my edges.

The blues were woven with a job lot of cottons I picked up cheap on ebay, great for practising.

Red inkle bands
The pink and yellow bands in this picture were woven with some wool I had lieing around, wools not great for weaving with for a beginner.
 These two bands were
my first ones.
The red cotton is pretty thin stuff, no idea what the size is. I double up the red cotton for weaving. The white cotton is a good thickness but I have no idea on that size either. Both are crochet yarns.

Inkle loom in use
The inkle loom being used. You can see the changes to the sheds being open and closed by looking at the middle band, thicker in the top picture and thinner in the bottom picture. You can see the reds and whites change too, this is how the pattern is created.
